First full week: Success!

Well, we made it through another week. GR let out early for heat twice, which put my 3rd hour English 9 class a little behind 2nd hour; not to worry, though, because I am finding out that we have an excellent crop of freshmen this year. Fun and bright, I have no doubt we will be back on track in no time at all.

Students at both GR and GC completed "Get To Know Me" videos using iMovie this week. It is my hope that we will be collaborating with other schools across the state later this trimester, and students will be able to give their partners a better idea of who they are, where they come from, and what interests them. I hope you will ask your child to see their movie, and I REALLY hope they will share it with you! I was very, very impressed at the quality and creativity that went into the creation of these videos.

I am working hard to build trust and relationships with students in Grundy Center, something that takes a lot of time and testing--on their part, and mine. It took exactly one week to learn all 33 students by name and face, so the first hurdle is over. I am really looking forward to the day when we can have both a productive discussion AND a laugh; this is a balance we have to work toward.

In other news, Gladbrook-Reinbeck's production of Seussical (the Musical!) is CAST! I am so, so excited about the group we've got, and all the fun we are going to have with this amazing show. I AM, however, still looking for more kids to be part of the chorus of Whos (you know...the Whos down in Whoville, who like Christmas a lot?). If your student toed the fence and opted not to audition, he/she can STILL get a taste of what GR drama is all about, without a lot of pressure to memorize lines or sing alone (though they will have to commit to memorizing a few songs, showing up to some rehearsals and wearing a seriously fun costume).

Have a great week, all!
